The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 32% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+31.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Egypt

Petroleum bitumen imports into Egypt contracted to X tons in 2022, dropping by -8.7% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 98%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, petroleum bitumen imports dropped notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 156% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of petroleum bitumen to Egypt, accounting for a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, petroleum bitumen imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Greece (X tons), with a 6.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Italy amounted to +131.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+113.3% per year) and Greece (+51.8% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of petroleum bitumen to Egypt, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with a 6.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Italy stood at +139.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+50.0% per year) and Spain (+88.9% per year).

In 2021, the average petroleum bitumen import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 50% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
