In 2022, approx. X units of ploughs for agricultural purposes were exported from Egypt; reducing by -28% against 2021 figures. In general, exports, however, posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 136% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plough exports contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 189%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

Zambia (X units) was the main destination for plough exports from Egypt, with a 94% share of total exports. Moreover, plough exports to Zambia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Saudi Arabia (X units), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Zambia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (-66.7% per year) and Sudan (0.0% per year).

In value terms, Zambia ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for ploughs for agricultural purposes exports from Egypt, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sudan ($X), with a 3.3% share of total exports.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zambia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Sudan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sudan (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Egypt

Plough imports into Egypt contracted rapidly to X units in 2022, falling by -68.8% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports saw a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 244%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plough imports declined significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 231% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

China (X units), Japan (X units) and Spain (X units) were the main suppliers of plough imports to Egypt, with a combined 67% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +32.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Japan ($X) and Spain ($X) were the largest plough suppliers to Egypt, with a combined 68% share of total imports.

China, with a CAGR of +33.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average plough import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -5.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 13%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Japan ($X per unit) and China ($X per unit), while the price for the UK ($X per unit) and Italy ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
