In 2021, the Egyptian prepared mustard market was finally on the rise to reach $X after three years of decline. In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of prepared mustard, when their volume decreased by -23.1% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 7,735% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, prepared mustard exports dropped notably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 4,223% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Kenya (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) were the main destinations of prepared mustard exports from Egypt, together comprising 85% of total exports. Oman lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 6.4%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Oman (with a CAGR of +51.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kenya ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for prepared mustard exports from Egypt, comprising 51% of total exports. In 2021, approx. X tons of prepared mustard were imported into Egypt; surging by 9.4% on 2020 figures. Overall, imports saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 123%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, prepared mustard imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -21.6% against 2019 indices. The United States (X tons), France (X tons) and Canada (X tons) were the main suppliers of prepared mustard imports to Egypt, together accounting for 86% of total imports.

In value terms, the largest prepared mustard suppliers to Egypt were the United States ($X), France ($X) and Canada ($X), together comprising 87% of total imports.
