The Egyptian rare gases market reached $X in 2022, with an increase of 8.5% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X cubic meters. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, rare gases exports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 3,149% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Libya (X cubic meters) was the main destination for rare gases exports from Egypt, accounting for a 97% share of total exports. It was followed by Tunisia (X cubic meters), with a 2.9% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Libya totaled -4.6%.

In value terms, Libya ($X) remains the key foreign market for rare gases (excluding argon) exports from Egypt, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with a 19% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Libya totaled +17.8%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average rare gases export price amounted to $X per cubic meter, increasing by 84% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 557% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per cubic meter. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Libya totaled $X per cubic meter.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq (+1,477.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Egypt

In 2022, the amount of rare gases (excluding argon) imported into Egypt skyrocketed to X cubic meters, surging by 49% on 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt contraction. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X cubic meters in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, rare gases imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a modest increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Qatar (X cubic meters) constituted the largest supplier of rare gases to Egypt, with a 71% share of total imports. Moreover, rare gases imports from Qatar exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Algeria (X cubic meters), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the United States (X cubic meters), with a 2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Qatar was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Algeria (+16.2% per year) and the United States (-10.0% per year).

In value terms, Qatar ($X) constituted the largest supplier of rare gases (excluding argon) to Egypt, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Algeria ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 2.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Qatar amounted to +10.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Algeria (+25.0% per year) and the United States (+0.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average rare gases import price amounted to $X per cubic meter, growing by 76% against the previous year. Overall, the import price posted a buoyant increase. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per cubic meter), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
