The Egyptian market for refractory bricks, blocks and tiles reduced to $X in 2021, declining by -13.6% against the previous year. In value terms, refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 51%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Yemen (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Libya (X tons) were the main destinations of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exports from Egypt, with a combined 37% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, the UK, Sudan, Greece, Morocco, Poland, Jordan, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 49%.

In general, the export price posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 83%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, refractory bricks, blocks and tiles imports contracted slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a noticeable decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 64%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
