Refrigerated Show-Cases Market Size in Egypt

In 2022, the Egyptian refrigerated show-cases market decreased by -26.5% to $X, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption, however, posted slight growth. Refrigerated show-cases consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, shipments abroad of refrigerated show-caseses increased by 4.3% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 238%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, refrigerated show-cases exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 292% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Morocco (X units), Algeria (X units) and Sudan (X units) were the main destinations of refrigerated show-cases exports from Egypt, together comprising 77% of total exports. Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Ghana and Libya lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +146.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Morocco ($X), Algeria ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for refrigerated show-cases exported from Egypt worldwide, together comprising 77% of total exports.

Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +191.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average refrigerated show-cases export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, jumping by 33% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 59%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Libya ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Sudan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+18.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Egypt

In 2022, purchases abroad of refrigerated show-caseses decreased by -20.8% to X units, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, saw a slight increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 93% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, refrigerated show-cases imports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 54%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Turkey (X units) constituted the largest refrigerated show-cases supplier to Egypt, accounting for a 42% share of total imports. Moreover, refrigerated show-cases imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Lebanon (X units), with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Turkey amounted to +17.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+3.3% per year) and Lebanon (+49.0% per year).

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of refrigerated show-caseses to Egypt, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Lebanon, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Turkey stood at +18.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+2.3% per year) and Lebanon (+37.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average refrigerated show-cases import price amounted to $X per unit, flattening at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a tangible increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 96% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Poland ($X per unit) and China ($X per unit), while the price for Austria ($X per unit) and the UK ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+10.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
