The Egyptian relay market reduced modestly to $X in 2022, dropping by -4.4% against the previous year. In value terms, relay exports shrank notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 2,764%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Bolivia (X units), Singapore (X units) and France (X units) were the main destinations of relay exports from Egypt, together comprising 46% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bolivia (with a CAGR of +618.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for relay exported from Egypt were Malta ($X), Sudan ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 36% share of total exports. Guatemala, Bolivia, Portugal and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.

In 2022, the average relay export price amounted to $X per unit, declining by -58.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 121% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Palestine (+233.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of relays were finally on the rise to reach X units after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 80% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, relay imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 58%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of relay to Egypt, with a 46% share of total imports. Moreover, relay imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Spain (X units), with a 9.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +1.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (-11.2% per year) and Spain (+4.1% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of relays to Egypt, comprising 26% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Finland, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +11.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+20.6% per year) and Finland (+41.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average relay import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, waning by -25.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 90% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per unit), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+22.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
