In value terms, salt exports shrank sharply to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 74%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Canada (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) were the main destinations of salt exports from Egypt, together accounting for 28% of total exports. Bulgaria, Poland, Lebanon, Latvia, Lithuania, Greece, Croatia, Italy, Estonia and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Estonia (with a CAGR of +45,356.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X), Canada ($X) and Vietnam ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for salt exported from Egypt worldwide, together comprising 34% of total exports. Bulgaria, Greece, Poland, Lebanon, Croatia, Italy, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.
Estonia, with a CAGR of +470.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average salt export price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -56.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 30% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Estonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Egypt
Salt imports into Egypt skyrocketed to X tons in 2022, increasing by 28% on 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 85%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, salt imports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 90% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Spain (X tons), Pakistan (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main suppliers of salt imports to Egypt, with a combined 44% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Austria (with a CAGR of +2,680.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Spain ($X), China ($X) and Pakistan ($X) were the largest salt suppliers to Egypt, together accounting for 69% of total imports. Germany, India, Austria, Denmark, the UK, the Netherlands and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.
Austria, with a CAGR of +993.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average salt import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -35.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 265%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+26.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
