Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed modest growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 287%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sanitary towel and diaper exports fell to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2014 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 24%. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Kenya (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) were the main destinations of sanitary towel and diaper exports from Egypt, with a combined 38% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Oman, Sudan, Uganda, Pakistan, Jordan, Cameroon and Nigeria, which together accounted for a further 45%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the United States (with a CAGR of +119.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kenya ($X), Morocco ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) constituted the largest markets for sanitary towel and diaper exported from Egypt worldwide, with a combined 38% share of total exports. Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Oman, Sudan, Uganda, Pakistan, Jordan, Cameroon and Nigeria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 45%.

Among the main countries of destination, the United States, with a CAGR of +109.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average sanitary towel and diaper export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 6.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a noticeable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 102%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Oman ($X per ton) and Morocco ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Uganda ($X per ton) and Pakistan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Pakistan (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Sanitary towel and diaper imports into Egypt fell markedly to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -16.5% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports faced a sharp decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 219%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sanitary towel and diaper imports shrank to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a sharp decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 16%. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 202% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Denmark ($X per ton) and Lebanon ($X per ton), while the price for Hungary ($X per ton) and Turkey ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
