In 2022, overseas shipments of saturated acyclic hydrocarbons increased by 2.6% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 154%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, saturated acyclic hydrocarbons exports contracted modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 96%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

India (X tons) was the main destination for saturated acyclic hydrocarbons exports from Egypt, accounting for a 88% share of total exports. Moreover, saturated acyclic hydrocarbons exports to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Turkey (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Cameroon (X tons), with a 3.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to India stood at -22.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (-21.9% per year) and Cameroon (-30.4% per year).

In value terms, India ($X) remains the key foreign market for saturated acyclic hydrocarbons exports from Egypt, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cameroon ($X), with a 4.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 3.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to India amounted to -21.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cameroon (-23.0% per year) and Turkey (-39.1% per year).

The average saturated acyclic hydrocarbons export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a mild contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 7.2%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tanzania (+340.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of saturated acyclic hydrocarbons, when their volume increased by 7.8% to X tons. In general, imports showed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 314%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, saturated acyclic hydrocarbons imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 234% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest saturated acyclic hydrocarbons supplier to Egypt, accounting for a 66% share of total imports. Moreover, saturated acyclic hydrocarbons imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), fivefold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.8% share.
