In 2021, the Egyptian skim milk market decreased by -2.5% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, skim milk exports reduced modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Libya (X tons), Palestine (X tons) and Mauritania (X tons) were the main destinations of skim milk exports from Egypt, with a combined 84% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Mauritania (with a CAGR of +42.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Libya ($X), Palestine ($X) and Mauritania ($X) constituted the largest markets for skim milk exported from Egypt worldwide, with a combined 82% share of total exports.

From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Kenya ($X per ton) and Libya ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Mauritania ($X per ton) and Palestine ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kenya (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Egypt

In 2021, supplies from abroad of skim milk increased by 46% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after three years of decline. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 270%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, skim milk imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 353%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Saudi Arabia (X tons), Poland (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of skim milk imports to Egypt, together comprising 64% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +45.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of skim milk to Egypt, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 5.2% share.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
