Mineral Wool Market Size in Egypt

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was decline in the Egyptian mineral wool market, when its value decreased by -3.7% to $X. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +29.8% against 2017 indices. Mineral wool consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

In value terms, mineral wool production dropped to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, the total production indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +32.6% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 87% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Egypt

In 2021, shipments abroad of slag wool, rock wool and similar mineral wools and mixtures decreased by -2.7% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 160%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, mineral wool exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 298% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Morocco (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons) were the main destinations of mineral wool exports from Egypt, together comprising 47% of total exports. Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Tunisia, Kenya, India, Ghana, Nigeria, Cyprus and Libya lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 47%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Kenya (with a CAGR of +60.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for mineral wool exported from Egypt were Morocco ($X), Lebanon ($X) and Bangladesh ($X), with a combined 46% share of total exports. Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, Tunisia, Kenya, India, Ghana, Nigeria, Cyprus and Libya lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 47%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Jordan, with a CAGR of +53.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average mineral wool export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 31% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 56%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tunisia (+14.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Egypt

In 2021, overseas purchases of slag wool, rock wool and similar mineral wools and mixtures increased by 39% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports showed measured growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 114% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, mineral wool imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a mild increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 181% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Turkey (X tons), France (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of mineral wool imports to Egypt, together comprising 55% of total imports. Slovenia, Spain, Germany, the United States and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +142.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X), Turkey ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the largest mineral wool suppliers to Egypt, together accounting for 57% of total imports. These countries were followed by Slovenia, Spain, Germany, the United States and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 24%.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (-2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
