From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plastic support exports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a slight decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 30%. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Libya (X tons), Sudan (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic support exports from Egypt, together accounting for 44% of total exports. Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, Turkey, Cameroon, Palestine and Iraq lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 43%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Palestine (with a CAGR of +12.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average plastic support export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 4.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 61%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Algeria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Libya ($X per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq (+16.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of spools, cops and similar supports of plastics increased by 6.3% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plastic support imports soared to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of plastic support imports to Egypt, together comprising 43% of total imports.

Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
