In value terms, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate notable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 65%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Sudan (X tons) was the main destination for candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery exports from Egypt, with a 31% share of total exports. Moreover, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery exports to Sudan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Yemen (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Morocco (X tons), with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Sudan totaled +2.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Yemen (-2.2% per year) and Morocco (+6.7% per year).
In value terms, Sudan ($X) remains the key foreign market for candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery exports from Egypt, comprising 32% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Yemen ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Morocco, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Sudan amounted to +4.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Yemen (-0.6% per year) and Morocco (+8.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average export price for candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -12.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed measured growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 86% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Morocco ($X per ton) and Sudan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) and Yemen ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Palestine (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery imports into Egypt shrank to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -5.9% on 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 45%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery imports fell slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 73%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery supplier to Egypt, accounting for a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), fivefold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Turkey totaled -3.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+2.6% per year) and Poland (+3.1% per year).
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery to Egypt, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Turkey amounted to +1.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+4.9% per year) and Poland (+7.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average import price for candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 39%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
