Exports from Egypt
In 2022, after five years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of trucks, when their volume increased by 25% to X units. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 644%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, truck exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 203% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Sudan (X units), Ethiopia (X units) and Libya (X units) were the main destinations of truck exports from Egypt, together comprising 73% of total exports. Moreover, truck exports in Sudan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest exporter, Ethiopia, twofold.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Ethiopia (with a CAGR of +44.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for truck exported from Egypt were Sudan ($X), Ethiopia ($X) and Libya ($X), with a combined 74% share of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Ethiopia, with a CAGR of +93.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average truck export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a noticeable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 76%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Libya ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ethiopia (+34.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Egypt
In 2022, approx. X units of trucks were imported into Egypt; with a decrease of -34.9% against the previous year. Overall, imports showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 27%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, truck imports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Thailand (X units) constituted the largest supplier of truck to Egypt, with a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, truck imports from Thailand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X units), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by China (X units), with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Thailand was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (-15.8% per year) and China (+10.4% per year).
In value terms, the largest truck suppliers to Egypt were Thailand ($X), Germany ($X) and Japan ($X), with a combined 82% share of total imports. China and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 7.4%.
China, with a CAGR of +8.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average truck import price amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 14% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 36%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
