In value terms, twine and cordage exports declined sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 87% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Sudan (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) were the main destinations of twine and cordage exports from Egypt, with a combined 69% share of total exports. Libya, Germany, Tunisia, Hungary and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +77.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of twine, cordage, rope and cables, when their volume increased by 11% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a modest expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 219% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, twine and cordage imports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports posted a noticeable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 356%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) were the main suppliers of twine and cordage imports to Egypt, together comprising 56% of total imports. Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Norway, the Netherlands, India and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Norway (with a CAGR of +26.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
