In 2021, the Egyptian waffle and wafer market increased by 36% to $X, rising for the fourth consecutive year after five years of decline. In general, consumption saw a resilient expansion. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, waffle and wafer exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 89%. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Oman (X tons), Palestine (X tons) and Iraq (X tons) were the main destinations of waffle and wafer exports from Egypt, together accounting for 66% of total exports. These countries were followed by Jordan, Libya, Turkey, Yemen, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 31%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +93.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Palestine ($X), Iraq ($X) and Jordan ($X) constituted the largest markets for waffle and wafer exported from Egypt worldwide, together comprising 70% of total exports. These countries were followed by Libya, Oman, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 25%.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 69% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, waffle and wafer imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 93% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of waffle and wafer to Egypt, with a 83% share of total imports.
