The Egyptian wallpaper market dropped to $X in 2021, reducing by -7.4% against the previous year. Saudi Arabia (X tons), Libya (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main destinations of wallpaper exports from Egypt, together accounting for 89% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +38.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Libya ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Ireland ($X) constituted the largest markets for wallpaper exported from Egypt worldwide, with a combined 87% share of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +65.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average wallpaper export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 194%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ireland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq (+330.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Egypt
In 2021, approx. X tons of wallpaper and wall coverings were imported into Egypt; which is down by -23.2% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 55% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wallpaper imports fell modestly to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of wallpaper imports to Egypt, with a combined 58% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Turkey, France, Thailand, Hong Kong SAR and the United States, which together accounted for a further 23%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +14.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wallpaper and wall coverings to Egypt, comprising 32% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 9.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled -5.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-7.0% per year) and Italy (-13.5% per year).

In 2021, the average wallpaper import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 180% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the price for South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+85.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
