Imports into Egypt

In 2022, imports of wheat into Egypt soared to X tons, rising by 65% on the year before. Overall, imports posted slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 316%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, wheat imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a slight increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 325%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2022, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of wheat to Egypt, accounting for a 47% share of total imports. In 2022, the average wheat import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -6.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the price for Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
