In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Israel ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for wood charcoal exported from Egypt worldwide, together accounting for 52% of total exports.
The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +26.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average wood charcoal export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 121% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw temperate growth. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Israel ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Wood charcoal imports into Egypt soared to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 32% compared with the year before. Overall, imports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 123% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, wood charcoal imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 151% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Indonesia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of wood charcoal to Egypt, accounting for a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, wood charcoal imports from Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United States (X tons), with a 6.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Indonesia totaled +33.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+26.7% per year) and the United States (+99.3% per year).
In value terms, Indonesia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wood charcoal to Egypt, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Indonesia stood at +24.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+25.0% per year) and the United States (+105.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average wood charcoal import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 4.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 246%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
