As a result, the exports attained the peak of X square meters. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, woven carpet exports fell remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 165% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Algeria (X square meters), the United States (X square meters) and Sudan (X square meters) were the main destinations of woven carpet exports from Egypt, together comprising 60% of total exports. Mauritania, Libya, Somalia, Tunisia, Germany, the Netherlands, Kenya and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Somalia (with a CAGR of +73.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average woven carpet export price stood at $X per square meter in 2022, waning by -18% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 52% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per square meter, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Somalia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 457% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X square meters. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, woven carpet imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 138% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Turkey (X square meters) constituted the largest woven carpet supplier to Egypt, accounting for a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, woven carpet imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X square meters), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by China (X square meters), with a 9.2% share.
