Turkey (X tons) was the main destination for cotton fabric exports from Egypt, with a 41% share of total exports. Moreover, cotton fabric exports to Turkey exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Tunisia (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Italy (X tons), with an 11% share.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the key foreign market for woven fabrics of cotton exports from Egypt, comprising 38% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Turkey totaled +22.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tunisia (+29.5% per year) and Italy (-1.6% per year).

The average cotton fabric export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a deep setback. In 2021, purchases abroad of woven fabrics of cotton decreased by less than 0.1% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 3,241%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cotton fabric imports rose slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 447%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest cotton fabric supplier to Egypt, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, cotton fabric imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Pakistan (X tons), with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +7.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+8.9% per year) and Pakistan (+5.6% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of woven fabrics of cotton to Egypt, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Pakistan, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +5.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+7.4% per year) and Pakistan (-2.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average cotton fabric import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 2.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 177% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Pakistan ($X per ton), while the price for Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) and China ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
