Germany (X tons) was the main destination for anise, badian, fennel and coriander exports from Estonia, accounting for a 89% share of total exports. Moreover, anise, badian, fennel and coriander exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sweden (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany amounted to +4.7%.
In value terms, Germany ($X) and Sweden ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for anise, badian, fennel and coriander exported from Estonia worldwide.
Germany, with a CAGR of +9.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review.

In 2022, the average export price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 2.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 36% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany amounted to $X per ton.

Imports into Estonia
In 2022, anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports into Estonia contracted markedly to X tons, waning by -25.3% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 127%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports shrank slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 51%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
India (X tons), Finland (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main suppliers of anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports to Estonia, with a combined 65% share of total imports. Vietnam, Romania, China, Poland, Turkey, Bulgaria and Syrian Arab Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +102.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, India ($X) constituted the largest supplier of anise, badian, fennel and coriander to Estonia, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from India stood at +21.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+7.4% per year) and Vietnam (+96.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average import price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, anise, badian, fennel and coriander import price increased by +73.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 52%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Finland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Syrian Arab Republic (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
