Barley Market Size in Estonia

Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, barley exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Saudi Arabia (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Finland (X tons) were the main destinations of barley exports from Estonia, with a combined 73% share of total exports. Spain and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +271.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Turkey ($X per ton) and Spain ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Estonia

In 2022, the amount of barley imported into Estonia shrank to X tons, with a decrease of -5.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 406%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, barley imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 322% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Latvia (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of barley imports to Estonia, with a combined 87% share of total imports. Poland, France, Denmark and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 12%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +59.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Lithuania ($X), Latvia ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest barley suppliers to Estonia, with a combined 71% share of total imports. Poland, France, Denmark and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.
