Lithuania (X tons) was the main destination for buckwheat exports from Estonia, accounting for a 47% share of total exports. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Lithuania amounted to +71.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+59.6% per year) and Poland (+36.3% per year).

The average buckwheat export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 6.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a pronounced contraction. For the third consecutive year, Estonia recorded growth in purchases abroad of buckwheat, which increased by 39% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 119%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In 2022, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of buckwheat to Estonia, accounting for a 51% share of total imports. Moreover, buckwheat imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mongolia (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Lithuania (X tons), with an 11% share.
