For the seventh year in a row, the Estonian canned vegetable market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 14% to $X in 2022. In 2022, approx. X tons of canned vegetables were exported from Estonia; surging by 4.4% on 2021 figures. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 60% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, canned vegetable exports amounted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +14.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Finland (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the main destinations of canned vegetable exports from Estonia, together comprising 57% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Japan (with a CAGR of +570.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Finland ($X) remains the key foreign market for canned vegetables exports from Estonia, comprising 40% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with an 8.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Finland totaled +3.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (+609.9% per year) and Russia (-8.4% per year).

The average canned vegetable export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 4.4% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, canned vegetable export price increased by +2.2% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 31% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Estonia
Canned vegetable imports into Estonia rose markedly to X tons in 2022, with an increase of 12% compared with the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 12%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, canned vegetable imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +78.0% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 16%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Poland (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the main suppliers of canned vegetable imports to Estonia, together accounting for 56% of total imports. Latvia, Spain, Finland, Lithuania and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Finland (with a CAGR of +19.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of canned vegetables to Estonia, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 9.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with an 8.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Poland totaled +9.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (-1.4% per year) and Italy (+9.7% per year).

In 2022, the average canned vegetable import price amounted to $X per ton, stabilizing at the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 17% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while the price for Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+8.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
