Chicken Egg Market Size in Estonia

The Estonian chicken egg market fell to $X in 2022, which is down by -4.4% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a pronounced contraction. Chicken egg consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, chicken egg exports from Estonia surged to X tons, increasing by 68% compared with 2021. In general, exports posted a slight expansion. The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, chicken egg exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Lithuania (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Latvia (X tons) were the main destinations of chicken egg exports from Estonia, with a combined 93% share of total exports. Denmark, Sweden and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 6.4%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Sweden (with a CAGR of +126.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Lithuania ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for chicken eggs exports from Estonia, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Latvia, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Lithuania amounted to +33.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+5.6% per year) and Latvia (-16.1% per year).

The average chicken egg export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Finland (+8.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Estonia

In 2022, overseas purchases of chicken eggs were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 33%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chicken egg imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Latvia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of chicken egg to Estonia, with a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, chicken egg imports from Latvia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), sevenfold. Lithuania (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Latvia stood at +6.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+11.1% per year) and Lithuania (-11.8% per year).

In value terms, Latvia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of chicken eggs to Estonia, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Lithuania, with an 8.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Latvia totaled +7.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+10.1% per year) and Lithuania (-12.1% per year).

The average chicken egg import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 32% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the price for Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
