Metal Chain Market Size in Estonia

The Estonian metal chain market rose slightly to $X in 2022, with an increase of 1.5% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports from Estonia

After two years of growth, shipments abroad of iron or steel chain decreased by -79.9% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 809% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, metal chain exports contracted significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 427%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Russia (X tons) was the main destination for metal chain exports from Estonia, with a 84% share of total exports. Moreover, metal chain exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Armenia (X kg), more than tenfold. Finland (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Russia totaled +15.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Armenia (0.0% per year) and Finland (-14.9% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X), Armenia ($X) and Latvia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for metal chain exported from Estonia worldwide, together accounting for 87% of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Russia, with a CAGR of +2.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Export Prices by Country

The average metal chain export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 38% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 208%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Metal Chain Imports

Imports into Estonia

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of iron or steel chain decreased by -21.3% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a measured expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 63%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In value terms, metal chain imports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 142%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest metal chain supplier to Estonia, with a 89% share of total imports. It was followed by Finland (X tons), with a 2.7% share of total imports. Latvia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +16.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Finland (+7.6% per year) and Latvia (+23.2% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of iron or steel chain to Estonia, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Finland ($X), with an 8.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Latvia, with a 4.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at +13.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Finland (+14.2% per year) and Latvia (+25.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average metal chain import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 1.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a noticeable descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 58%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+11.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
