Latvia (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Finland (X tons) were the main destinations of margarine and shortening exports from Estonia, with a combined 88% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Finland (with a CAGR of +49.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, Latvia ($X) remains the key foreign market for margarine and shortening exports from Estonia, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Finland, with a 17% share.

Imports into Estonia
In 2022, the amount of margarine and shortening imported into Estonia rose to X tons, with an increase of 2.4% on 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, margarine and shortening imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a mild descent. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Lithuania (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of margarine and shortening imports to Estonia, together accounting for 62% of total imports. Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Finland (with a CAGR of +35.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Lithuania ($X), Finland ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest margarine and shortening suppliers to Estonia, together accounting for 61% of total imports.
Finland, with a CAGR of +36.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
