The Estonian market for meat of camels and other animals fell to $X in 2022, which is down by -3.7% against the previous year. Overall, consumption saw a deep slump. Camel and other animal meat consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Production of Meat of Camels and Other Animals in Estonia

In value terms, camel and other animal meat production reduced to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the production volume increased by 15% against the previous year. Camel and other animal meat production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Estonia

In 2022, overseas shipments of meat of camels and other animals decreased by -15.3% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, exports, however, showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 95% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, camel and other animal meat exports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 50%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Finland (X tons) was the main destination for camel and other animal meat exports from Estonia, with a 61% share of total exports. Moreover, camel and other animal meat exports to Finland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sweden (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X tons), with an 8.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Finland stood at +7.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (+2.2% per year) and Germany (+17.4% per year).

In value terms, Finland ($X) remains the key foreign market for meat of camels and other animals exports from Estonia, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sweden ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 5.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Finland amounted to +5.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (+7.7% per year) and Germany (+7.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average export price for meat of camels and other animals amounted to $X per ton, surging by 30% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 70% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia (+13.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Meat of Camels and Other Animals

Imports into Estonia

In 2022, approx. X tons of meat of camels and other animals were imported into Estonia; declining by -25.9% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 62% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, camel and other animal meat imports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 48%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Latvia (X tons) constituted the largest camel and other animal meat supplier to Estonia, with a 49% share of total imports. Moreover, camel and other animal meat imports from Latvia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), threefold. New Zealand (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Latvia amounted to +22.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+5.8% per year) and New Zealand (+12.6% per year).

In value terms, Latvia ($X), Poland ($X) and New Zealand ($X) were the largest camel and other animal meat suppliers to Estonia, together comprising 65% of total imports. Lithuania, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Denmark lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.

In terms of the main suppliers, France, with a CAGR of +33.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average import price for meat of camels and other animals amounted to $X per ton, surging by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 20% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
