Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Italy (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) were the main destinations of packaging materials exports from Estonia, together comprising 33% of total exports. Israel, Poland, Denmark, Ukraine, Romania, the UK, Sweden, Latvia, Turkey and Morocco lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.

In general, export price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of packaging materials decreased by -15.2% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 23%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.
In value terms, packaging materials imports rose significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +38.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Sweden (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Finland (X tons) were the main suppliers of packaging materials imports to Estonia, with a combined 63% share of total imports.
