Pears And Quinces Market Size in Estonia

The Estonian pears and quinces market expanded remarkably to $X in 2022, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, the total consumption indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption decreased by -18.2% against 2018 indices. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Estonia

In 2022, approx. X tons of pears and quinces were exported from Estonia; which is down by -55% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 1,268% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, pears and quinces exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 1,024%. Finland (X tons), Norway (X tons) and Latvia (X tons) were the main destinations of pears and quinces exports from Estonia, together accounting for 97% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Finland (with a CAGR of +30.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for pears and quinces exported from Estonia were Norway ($X), Finland ($X) and Latvia ($X), with a combined 95% share of total exports.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Estonia

In 2022, overseas purchases of pears and quinces were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 104% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pears and quinces imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -17.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 39%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest pears and quinces supplier to Estonia, accounting for a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, pears and quinces imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), fourfold. Latvia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Netherlands totaled +17.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (-7.9% per year) and Latvia (+4.3% per year).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of pears and quinces to Estonia, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Latvia, with a 7.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from the Netherlands totaled +18.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (-7.2% per year) and Latvia (+4.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average pears and quinces import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -1.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 35%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
