Moreover, recovered paper exports to Finland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Lithuania (X tons), threefold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Finland totaled +16.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lithuania (-11.5% per year) and Poland (+14.3% per year).
In value terms, Finland ($X) remains the key foreign market for recovered paper exports from Estonia, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Lithuania ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Finland amounted to +19.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lithuania (-8.9% per year) and Germany (+12.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average recovered paper export price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 20% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+24.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Estonia
After two years of growth, purchases abroad of recovered paper decreased by -81.7% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 855%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, recovered paper imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 944%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted notably in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Latvia (X tons) was the main recovered paper supplier to Estonia, accounting for a 98% share of total imports. It was followed by Finland (X tons), with a 0.7% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Latvia stood at +24.4%.
In value terms, Latvia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of recovered paper to Estonia, comprising 93% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Finland ($X), with a 4.5% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Latvia totaled +28.4%.

In 2022, the average recovered paper import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -19.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a abrupt shrinkage.
