In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of refined or synthetic glycerol, when their volume decreased by -5.4% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 140% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, refined or synthetic glycerol imports reached $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 134% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of refined or synthetic glycerol to Estonia, with a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, refined or synthetic glycerol imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Lithuania (X tons), sevenfold. Austria (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany totaled +38.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Lithuania (+12.2% per year) and Austria (0.0% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of refined or synthetic glycerol to Estonia, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Lithuania ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 7.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany stood at +36.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Lithuania (+22.4% per year) and Poland (+49.0% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the price for Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
