In 2022, overseas shipments of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic decreased by -39.1% to X tons, falling for the fifth year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports faced a sharp reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plastic ornamental articles exports declined notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a sharp downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 55%. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Latvia (X tons), Norway (X tons) and Finland (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic ornamental articles exports from Estonia, together comprising 47% of total exports. Russia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Sweden and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +145.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest markets for plastic ornamental articles exported from Estonia were Norway ($X), Latvia ($X) and France ($X), together comprising 42% of total exports. Finland, Sweden, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +140.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average plastic ornamental articles export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -16.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+14.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic decreased by -20.2% to X tons, falling for the fifth year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 77%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic ornamental articles imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 40%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest plastic ornamental articles supplier to Estonia, with a 78% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic ornamental articles imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), more than tenfold. The Netherlands (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled -14.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+7.8% per year) and the Netherlands (+4.7% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic to Estonia, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 5.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Finland, with a 5.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled -9.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+4.4% per year) and Finland (+21.7% per year).

In 2022, the average plastic ornamental articles import price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -13.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+14.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
