Tufted Carpet Market Size in Estonia

The Estonian tufted carpet market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, approx. X square meters of tufted carpets and other tufted textile floor coverings were exported from Estonia; shrinking by -3.6% against 2021. In general, exports showed a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X square meters. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, tufted carpet exports reached $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The Czech Republic (X square meters) was the main destination for tufted carpet exports from Estonia, accounting for a 44% share of total exports. Moreover, tufted carpet exports to the Czech Republic exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sweden (X square meters), twofold. Poland (X square meters) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 17% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the Czech Republic totaled -12.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (+0.7% per year) and Poland (+40.5% per year).

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Sweden ($X) and Slovakia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for tufted carpet exported from Estonia worldwide, with a combined 62% share of total exports. Poland, Germany, Russia, Romania, the UK and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +27.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average tufted carpet export price stood at $X per square meter in 2022, with an increase of 4.3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 13% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+27.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Estonia

In 2022, the amount of tufted carpets and other tufted textile floor coverings imported into Estonia fell slightly to X square meters, reducing by -1.7% against the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X square meters in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, tufted carpet imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +2.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands (X square meters), Belgium (X square meters) and China (X square meters) were the main suppliers of tufted carpet imports to Estonia, together accounting for 70% of total imports. The UK, Poland, India, Greece, Germany, Denmark and Egypt lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +16.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest tufted carpet suppliers to Estonia were the Netherlands ($X), Belgium ($X) and China ($X), with a combined 61% share of total imports. The UK, Germany, Denmark, India, Poland, Greece and Egypt lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

India, with a CAGR of +15.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average tufted carpet import price amounted to $X per square meter, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 20%. The import price peaked at $X per square meter in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per square meter), while the price for Egypt ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
