In value terms, whey exports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 58%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

Latvia (X tons) was the main destination for whey exports from Estonia, with a 73% share of total exports. Moreover, whey exports to Latvia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sweden (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Poland (X tons), with a 6.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Latvia stood at +36.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (+323.2% per year) and Poland (+17.3% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for whey exported from Estonia were China ($X), Latvia ($X) and Sweden ($X), together comprising 69% of total exports.

Sweden, with a CAGR of +336.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+15.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Whey imports into Estonia contracted rapidly to X tons in 2022, shrinking by -19.2% compared with the previous year. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 136%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, whey imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a slight expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 103% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

France (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Finland (X tons) were the main suppliers of whey imports to Estonia, together accounting for 69% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +82.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest whey suppliers to Estonia were France ($X), Germany ($X) and Finland ($X), together accounting for 70% of total imports.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
