Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Egypt (X kg) was the main destination for candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery exports from Ethiopia, with a 85% share of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sweden ($X), with a 5.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with a 5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Egypt stood at +81.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (0.0% per year) and Canada (-22.7% per year).

Over the period under review, imports, however, saw moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 268%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery imports reduced slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 178% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Pakistan (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) were the main suppliers of candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery imports to Ethiopia, together comprising 62% of total imports. India, China, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Turkey, Brazil and Kenya lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
