Norway (X tons), Sudan (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of manuka exports from Ethiopia, with a combined 93% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the United States (with a CAGR of +104.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Norway ($X) remains the key foreign market for manuka exports from Ethiopia, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sudan ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with an 8.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Norway amounted to -16.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sudan (-27.3% per year) and Japan (+88.3% per year).

In 2022, the average manuka export price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -18.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 34%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Sudan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+15.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, imports of manuka into Ethiopia shrank dramatically to X tons, waning by -47.5% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 1,937% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
In value terms, manuka imports fell significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a temperate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 1,895%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Australia (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of manuka imports to Ethiopia.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Australia (with a CAGR of +387.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of manuka to Ethiopia, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Australia ($X), with an 11% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United Arab Emirates amounted to +61.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Australia (+127.3% per year) and India (+30.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average manuka import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 95%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for Australia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (-3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
