The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 461% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, camel and other animal meat imports reached $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, faced a significant decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 85% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, China (X kg) was the main camel and other animal meat supplier to Ethiopia, accounting for a 93% share of total imports. Moreover, camel and other animal meat imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Africa (X kg), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +29.8%.
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of meat of camels and other animals to Ethiopia, comprising 92% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with an 8.3% share of total imports.
