The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands (X kg) was the main destination for raspberry and blackberry exports from Ethiopia, with a 89% share of total exports. Moreover, raspberry and blackberry exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bahrain (X kg), more than tenfold. The UK (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the Netherlands totaled -32.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bahrain (-27.7% per year) and the UK (-44.4% per year).
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the key foreign market for raspberries and blackberries exports from Ethiopia, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bahrain ($X), with a 3.9% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with a 0.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the Netherlands totaled -28.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bahrain (-32.3% per year) and the UK (-47.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average raspberry and blackberry export price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -20.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 167%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Seychelles (+19.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Ethiopia
In 2021, imports of raspberries and blackberries into Ethiopia rose significantly to X kg, picking up by 15% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports, however, faced a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 4,876% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, raspberry and blackberry imports shrank notably to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 8,776%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, France (X kg) was the main raspberry and blackberry supplier to Ethiopia, accounting for a 94% share of total imports. Moreover, raspberry and blackberry imports from France exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X kg), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from France amounted to -26.7%.
