As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Comoros (X tons) was the main destination for exports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal from Ethiopia, with a 53% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal to Comoros exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Vietnam (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR (X tons), with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Comoros totaled +8.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+12.1% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+253.1% per year).

Imports into Ethiopia

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal, when their volume decreased by -15.2% to X tons. In general, imports, however, saw a noticeable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 194% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, imports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal shrank markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a mild increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 124%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

The Netherlands (X tons), Kenya (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of imports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal to Ethiopia, together comprising 85% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +101.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kenya ($X) constituted the largest supplier of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal to Ethiopia, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 6.6% share.
