Canada (X litres) was the main destination for sugary soft drink exports from Ethiopia, accounting for a 62% share of total exports. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Netherlands (X litres), with a 12% share.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +910.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, sugary soft drink imports into Ethiopia soared to X litres, increasing by 36% on the year before. Overall, imports saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 173%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X litres in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country
In 2022, Sudan (X litres) constituted the largest supplier of sugary soft drink to Ethiopia, with a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, sugary soft drink imports from Sudan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Uganda (X litres), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates (X litres), with a 3.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Sudan totaled +37.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uganda (+72.7% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+34.9% per year).
In value terms, Sudan ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sugary soft drinks to Ethiopia, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Austria ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Sudan amounted to +26.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (+3.8% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+29.4% per year).

The average sugary soft drink import price stood at $X per litre in 2022, approximately equating the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 131%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per litre.
