Agglomerated Dolomite Market Size in the EU

The EU agglomerated dolomite market fell modestly to $X in 2022, reducing by -2.4% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, agglomerated dolomite exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 140% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Italy (X tons) represented the main exporter of agglomerated dolomite, comprising 53% of total exports. Lithuania (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 19% share, followed by France (12%), Spain (5.7%) and Austria (4.9%). Finland (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Italy was also the fastest-growing in terms of the agglomerated dolomite exports, with a CAGR of +81.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Spain (+12.5%), France (+5.9%) and Austria (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Lithuania (-2.2%) and Finland (-7.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Italy, Finland and Spain increased by +53, +3.9 and +2.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the largest agglomerated dolomite supplier in the European Union, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with a 4.8% share.

In Italy, agglomerated dolomite exports increased at an average annual rate of +80.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: France (+11.2% per year) and Austria (+15.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -13.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+13.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU

Agglomerated dolomite imports shrank to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -7.3% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 52%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, agglomerated dolomite imports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 78% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 36% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Slovenia (X tons), France (X tons), Ireland (X tons), Greece (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Belgium (X tons), together comprising a 42% share of total imports. The following importers - the Czech Republic (X tons), Spain (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), Italy (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and Austria (X tons) - together made up 17% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to agglomerated dolomite imports into the Netherlands stood at +39.7%. At the same time, Ireland (+1,053.7%), Greece (+107.5%), Sweden (+69.8%), Austria (+32.7%), France (+24.2%), Slovenia (+23.7%), the Czech Republic (+13.8%), Germany (+5.6%), Spain (+4.7%) and Belgium (+4.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ireland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +1,053.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Lithuania (-2.9%) and Italy (-8.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the Netherlands, Slovenia, Ireland, Greece, France, Sweden and Austria increased by +33, +7, +6.5, +6.5, +4.4, +2.1 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Greece ($X) and Belgium ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 36% of total imports. France, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Ireland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Italy and Lithuania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 55%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Ireland, with a CAGR of +703.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, declining by -8.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 29% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
