For the fourth year in a row, the European Union recorded growth in shipments abroad of threshing machinery except combine harvester-threshers, which increased by 2.2% to X units in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, threshing machinery exports reached $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +112.6% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Italy dominates exports structure, accounting for X units, which was approx. 80% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by France (X units), mixing up a 4.8% share of total exports. The following exporters - Poland (X units), Spain (X units) and Germany (X units) - together made up 10% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to threshing machinery exports from Italy stood at -1.5%. At the same time, Poland (+7.9%), France (+7.0%) and Spain (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +7.9% from 2012-2022. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of France (+2.6 p.p.) and Poland (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Italy (-4.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the largest threshing machinery supplier in the European Union, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 2.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 2.6% share.

In Italy, threshing machinery exports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Spain (+2.2% per year) and Germany (-1.9% per year).

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 3.1% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 61% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while France ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+6.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU

For the third year in a row, the European Union recorded growth in supplies from abroad of threshing machinery except combine harvester-threshers, which increased by 32% to X units in 2022. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +121.5% against 2017 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, threshing machinery imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a pronounced expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 43%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2022, Romania (X units), distantly followed by Bulgaria (X units), France (X units), Poland (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Spain (X units) and Croatia (X units) were the key importers of threshing machinery except combine harvester-threshers, together creating 84% of total imports.

In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 9.7%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2021, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Croatia (+15.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
