From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Greece was the largest exporter of bauxite in the European Union, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. 42% of total exports in 2022. The Netherlands (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Germany (X tons), France (X tons), Croatia (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Hungary (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 57% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to bauxite exports from Greece stood at -10.6%. At the same time, Croatia (+117.2%), Hungary (+55.3%), Spain (+28.9%), the Netherlands (+13.4%) and France (+11.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Croatia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +117.2% from 2012-2022. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the Netherlands, France, Croatia, Spain, Germany and Hungary increased by +16, +8, +6.7, +5.8, +5.2 and +4.8 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and Spain ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 77% of total exports. Greece, France, Croatia and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.

Croatia, with a CAGR of +129.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 2.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 48%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+7.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The following importers - France (X tons) and Romania (X tons) - each reached a 4.5% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Greece (with a CAGR of +24.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Spain ($X), Ireland ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 70% share of total imports. France, Greece and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.

Greece, with a CAGR of +24.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 21% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Ireland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
