Alums Market Size in the EU

The EU alums market totaled $X in 2022, picking up by 12% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 26%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, alums exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 87%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Germany (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) represented roughly 70% of total exports in 2022. Spain (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with an 18% share, followed by France (5.6%). Italy (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +17.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In value terms, the largest alums supplying countries in the European Union were Germany ($X), France ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), together accounting for 73% of total exports. Italy and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.

Spain, with a CAGR of +19.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, falling by -28.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 67% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of alums increased by 14% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 20%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, alums imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Italy (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) represented the main importer of alums in the European Union, comprising 61% of total import. Germany (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Denmark (X tons), France (X tons) and Portugal (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 32% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Denmark (with a CAGR of +24.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 52% share of total imports. Denmark, Belgium, France and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -3.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 22% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+3.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
