Aniline Market Size in the EU

In 2021, the EU aniline market increased by 7.2% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, consumption saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the market value increased by 8.9%. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, aniline exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Belgium represented the key exporter of aniline and its salts (excluding derivatives) in the European Union, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 55% of total exports in 2021. In value terms, Belgium ($X) remains the largest aniline supplier in the European Union, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Portugal, with a 16% share.

In Belgium, aniline exports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (-3.3% per year) and Portugal (+3.5% per year).

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 38% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a slight decline. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in the Netherlands ($X per ton) and Portugal ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) and Belgium ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

Imports in the EU

After five years of growth, purchases abroad of aniline and its salts (excluding derivatives) decreased by -2.9% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 5.1%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then fell modestly in the following year.

In value terms, aniline imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a mild contraction. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the four major importers of aniline and its salts (excluding derivatives), namely the Netherlands, Germany, Hungary and Spain, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), committing a 9% share of total imports. Slovakia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +15.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest aniline importing markets in the European Union were the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and Hungary ($X), together comprising 69% of total imports. These countries were followed by Spain, Belgium and Slovakia, which together accounted for a further 30%.

Among the main importing countries, Belgium, with a CAGR of +15.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild decrease. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
