In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in the EU aniline derivatives market, when its value decreased by -44% to $X. In general, consumption, however, showed a abrupt slump. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aniline derivatives exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 51%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Germany was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for 45% of total exports. Belgium (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Portugal (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 51% share of total exports. Hungary (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +44.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest aniline derivatives supplier in the European Union, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Portugal, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany amounted to -4.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belgium (+13.5% per year) and Portugal (-4.4% per year).

In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -14.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in the EU

Aniline derivatives imports soared to X tons in 2021, increasing by 15% against 2020 figures. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aniline derivatives imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +94.8% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Germany prevails in imports structure, recording X tons, which was near 51% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Spain (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Belgium (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Austria (X tons), together comprising a 42% share of total imports.

Imports into Germany increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Austria (+63.2%), Belgium (+8.6%) and Hungary (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Austria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +63.2% from 2012-2021. Spain and Italy experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Netherlands (-4.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Germany, Austria, Belgium and Hungary increased by +9.1, +4.8, +3.7 and +2.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
