The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 28%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Belgium was also the fastest-growing in terms of the aramids staple imports, with a CAGR of +114.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Slovenia (+33.7%), the Netherlands (+18.5%), Spain (+5.2%) and France (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Italy (-1.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belgium (+43 p.p.), Spain (+5.9 p.p.), the Netherlands (+5.6 p.p.) and Slovenia (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while France, Italy and Germany saw its share reduced by -3.7%, -14.1% and -29.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Belgium ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported aramids staple in the European Union, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 10% share.
In Belgium, aramids staple imports expanded at an average annual rate of +102.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-2.8% per year) and the Netherlands (+16.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 5.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable shrinkage. Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Spain ($X per ton) and Italy ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) and France ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+0.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
